Pia Kontos is a Senior Scientist at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute-University Health Network and Associate Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Her work on aging takes its bearings from the humanities (biographical, performative, fictional and narrative perspectives), philosophy (phenomenology, embodiment), and the social sciences (ethnographic, critical, emancipatory, and theories of the body). Her research program represents a convergence of several key interests or themes: critical interrogation of norms and assumptions underpinning care and relational practices in long-term care settings; a philosophy and approach to person-centred and relational care that emphasizes embodied selfhood; and the arts for triggering personal and organizational change. She has presented and published across multiple disciplines.
